PEMBROKE, ON | A veteran-owned blacksmith shop in the Ottawa Valley is offering residents an opportunity to learn traditional metalworking skills, from basic forging techniques to more advanced projects.
Forged in Canada, located at 1043 Pembroke Street East, is owned and operated by retired military member Lanny Hill. After leaving the military, Hill pursued formal blacksmith training, including studies through Fleming College’s Artist Blacksmith Program.
The shop offers a variety of hands-on workshops, including a three-hour introduction to blacksmithing, one-day project classes, and multi-day courses covering forging fundamentals. Participants can learn to work with heated metal, use traditional tools, and produce finished pieces to take home.
For those interested in a longer experience, Forged in Canada also offers an Iron Veteran five-day workshop. The program includes forging instruction and supervised shop time, and the business provides information about potential eligibility for Veterans Affairs Canada’s Education and Training Benefit.
The shop also provides custom ironwork services and forge rental for those interested in continuing the craft independently.
